(even then, still nowhere near the 2021 sms goat, who was an unfathomably bad person)

my time in ldn’s music community taught me that the most popular kinds of people were self-assured, egoless, kind. i remember there was one narcissist who was quite visibly rebuked over it

but in speedrunning, it turned out to be the opposite. ego was currency that brought attention

i think it’s a reflection of how personal instability + social failure impact who ends up doing what. esp for me, speedrunning was a 2nd choice bc i couldnt do music for class reasons

i think speedrunning is sick to do, but normal ppl would instinctively kno to not get close to other speedrunners. i only did cos i was so deep in the hole of alienation that i sought out others like me

but never have i seen a higher concentration of defective people than in sms

idk suigi well so maybe it’s just hopeful thinking. ik he reflects the sm64 community’s absurd hostility towards outsiders a bit, but i kinda get that those streams are a nightmare to manage (unlike the ppl in #lobby, who tend to just be straight bullying)

but when you see someone with a normal ego, normal attitude to irl and good friendships then i feel like u can expect some basic things like sayyy no top-player privilege, no clout warring, no lying, no sucking up to celebrities while tryna ostracise unpopular ppl u dislike
