a sense of bookends, for a career that has marked most of my life culturally and has been rounded off perfectly. i remember age 13 standing in the westway sports centre hearing the adults discussing how novak was just 3rd when ana and jelena were top 2 in the women’s game lol

plus it really was such a banger match to complete the career with, cos i have since federer in 2012 been questioning if athletes will forever fall off, yet each time it looks like nole will, 7 months into a dead season, he comes back with a performance matching his peak
