the il ranking is a bit deceptive bc there are 2 things to look out for
– the q metric (by which the table is sorted) measures performance over a player's submitted ils, whereas
– the p% metric covers all ils
q counts everyone's common ground (mostly any% ils)

historically, the 🐐 has been considered guy2308, whose records all date back to 2021. a top player at any% and 120, he would also be ranked 9th on il q-rank, albeit a distant 9th at 86.4%, which is hardly comparable to the top players. but the story is similar for the others

down the any% list: @diddeh14, an old version of guy2308 in each category – the two were the last true all-rounders of sms. @Nanashi_745 appears on 2 lists, wr on one, but has no ils. @ricco4in4338 appears twice as well, down in 15th (2:59) for 120

the rest only excel at any%

at the end of his career, guy had wr in two categories and was considered a top player in ils, tho the latter has aged poorly as the meta pulled itself together. with the bar raised now, i think he could be toppled as the goat by a player who gets top 3 in two categories

i'm mainly looking at inkstar. he shows potential for ils (the q ranking) but would need to stretch it to all ils (the p% ranking). he's also hamstrung by the lack of a baseline 120 time (a 2:59 or so). the big one to look out for, but not the 🐐 yet

the achilles's heal of sms (vs sm64 say) is its single-category focus. the 120 category is too long and rng-heavy to be competitive, so players fixate on any% and burn out much more easily. so there are few people who are even motivated to become the 🐐. alas [9/9]
