interestin case ive been thinkin bout tonite

i personally am very anti-religion for the same reason i'm anti-constitution and thought roe-v-wade was bad. it's cos it absolves humans of responsibility for their ethics, instead interpreting pre-ordained + outdated scripture [1/10] https://twitter.com/markinator99/status/1752742930534510863

for me, particularly abrahamic religions are inextricably tied up with e.g. the use of amalek to justify the gaza genocide. some jews will argue this is a bad interpretation, but it's still happened

total moral relativism and freedom from decreed law is scary but necessary imo

it seems inevitable that beliefs that being lgbt is inherently bad will result in ostracisation, but ppl sorely miss the significance of mark's point that these beliefs aren't reflected in hatred towards lgbt people

it's actually crucially important that

a good christian's worldview (and this applies to me talking about gender as well) is founded in respecting and valuing everybody regardless of their beliefs and self-conceptions. a christian may see a duty to try to persuade some1 to change eir beliefs, and that may cross a line

but to me, like... mark's pov is unclear but let's consider a hypothetical pov that being gay or trans is inherently bad. if somebody respects and values everyone then this should make no difference. i would think it stupid, sure, and as a bisexual may steer clear of the person

but there's a HUGE difference between this and the hatred that's even being displayed in the replies, purely out of a belief of moral superiority. the beliefs that good people have come from a place of wanting the best for everyone, which is obvs missing here

this is to me a legendary example of someone implying i'm a rapist over a disagreement over whether i had the right to quote her on an sj take

i've noticed this shit gets a completely free pass, bc it's believed to be the greater good to hate ppl who have opinions deemed bad

a christian might point to lack of faith in the world causing this level of dehumanisation and ppl to forget that the goal is to help each other be better

i see it as a consequence of how normalised bullying and gaslighting are from top to bottom in western society

but in the end, it's not these hypoth. beliefs about trans people that would cause the trans person to kill emself, but rather the same kind of dehumanisation expressed in these 2 examples

people remain too sensitive to bigoted opinions and not enough to hatred/intolerance/abuse

where it crosses the line is if say, bigoted opinions are used to justify discrimination, disrespect, or persistent attempts to convert some1's beliefs, not least slurs or incitements of violence

but mark being ostracised w/o doing any of this is sadly routine these days [10/10]
