i started the accurate sms il/rta leaderboards to combat the saulnier doctrine, which is my jokey term for the modding style of making up fake abuse accusations + allying w/ violent bullying movements in order to win culture wars within a community that's there for a hobby [1/9]

@shoutplenty

it's a hateful legacy of abusing cancel-culture, fraudulent victim-protection ideologies and arbitrary bans that left a community not only broken but also w/ woeful levels of neglected archiving and disinformation over records

so, my project's goal was initially info fidelity

@shoutplenty

this meant no names were redacted and it had some nasty abusers up w/ prominent leaderboard placements and no further comment

ignoring the bingo players, *i* wasn't happy with this, not least cos one of those names socially abused me and has since been bullying me

now that the project has matured, i want to break from both the sm64 doctrine of saying fuck victims and letting harmful abuser dynamics happen, as well as the src/starsmiley doctrine of arbitrarily cancelling people your friends don't like, and tread a middle ground

in my view, my project has a social responsibility both to protect victims and to oppose censorship/sjw approaches towards abuse (of hatred, guilt by association, ostracising for opinions)

i'm in a place where i know what victims actually need and can cut out the "ally" rhetoric

but having said that, i wanna hear from others about how the abuse policy should be

1 thing i've come to appreciate is the right to be forgotten, which incentivises moving on in healthy ways. it makes sense if an abuser is GONE then after 6 months, we can wash away eir sins

i think this means keeping eir name on the leaderboard w/ no asterisk, so a viewer will simply see eir achievements

however, for those who stay present having done smth where the victims deserve to be free of them forever, i think the move is to permanently record what they did

so my thoughts are i can link to a summary of why names have been hidden for abuse, link the cases there, and hide the names by default (i'm thinking "Name" → "N.", so an outsider can't tell who it is), but have the option to show names, at the same time linking the summary

@shoutplenty

this should only be for really severe cases (= malice + persistence + damage) where the victim will suffer long-term trauma and suicide risk, so i dont mean EG calling the bingo players retards lol

thoughts? reply or dm me on discord [9/9]
