i was reminded talking to my mum about gender politics again how my takes directed at ppl my age tend to be more gender-critical, and at ppl her age tend to be more trans-rights-activist aligned. i was like this in school as well age 16–17 with our first steps into politics [1/8]

many back then were unironically tories, then they "learnt" to be better. sure, we're always learning, so adapting our takes, but idk why ppl my age lost their humility and started thinking they'd "solved" issues

cos back then, ppl weren't ostracised for wrongthink like i am now

the more things change... but i'm proud to have stayed humble and able to understand both sides, and held opinions fiercely my own. it's rly the original thoughts i have that are the ones that make it into words. i never see the point in saying smth someone has already said

one thing my mum reminded me was the paradox ppl my age always skirt around, that young ppl have radical "progressive" opinions, and behave like they'll always think the same way, and never understand why older ppl become "conservative". they think they're the 1st good generation

so why do i buck that trend, and talk a lot about the darkness that lies within progressive politics – especially so since i was abused? well. the two go hand in hand

life experience helps you understand the pitfalls of radical ideologies, and the trauma made me grow up *fast*

i look at a lot of these progressive values and i see within them violence, hypocrisy, and pain. some of them (like "believe victims") betrayed me

my politics now rly just focus on things that worried me 3 years ago, and worry most ppl i imagine, but i dismissed as not big deals

you can swallow a lot of violence + toxicity by convincing yourself it's for a greater good

so nowadays, you mostly see me advocating for common ground, tolerance, freedom of thought, and against hate and violence. most violence i see close to me these days is against wrongthink

i'm very quick to tolerate those whose politics are indirectly harmful to a demographic, and very sensitive to those who disguise personal malice with politics

but the thing i hate the most is liars. and realistically, society likes liars. hence me leaving [8/8]
