earlier today, toobou posted a time of 1:13:17.68. this is 0.5s slower than the current world record, 1:13:17.17 by Guy2308

firstly, here are the facts on the 1:13s. the accurate leaderboard (https://tiny.cc/smsrta) has the job of reporting every legit pb known to have been achieved by a human. legitimacy is defined by game/platform rules. runs are timed w/ the best known standard (ffmpeg frame-dump)

so why is the WR ignored by commenters and other (non-accurate) leaderboards? because the runner was cancelled. guy2308's run was actually removed from speedrun .com by popular vote after he parodied his prior anonymisation. the case behind that anonymisation was rock solid imo

thruout 2022, there was a loose consensus in the sms community to accept that speedrun .com didn't show the wr but rather a "community record". then in feb 2023, inkstar declared that the console used by the wr was illegal (by hardware mod), whence jjsrl declared he "officially"—

had wr and furthermore said that the hardware mod was intentional, which was never true but is a belief that still persists among speedrunners. later, an evidence review cleared the hardware of being modded, finding it was just rare instead, and inkstar retracted his claim

since then, some runners (pumpman, jjsrl) have been performing this same mod themselves to even the playing field by obviating the requirement to track down this rare hardware

the tendency to call the 2nd-place run "wr" was thus established by this event, but never went back after it was cleared up. that brings us to today. i don't see a reason to think the 2022 consensus changed in ppl's minds, but they say increasingly that it's hard to express it

while i've conscientiously called out instances of deceit, i think it's important to keep a perspective that leaderboard issues are not that deep and not worth straining relationships over. to me, the hatred and blocking coming from this show a privilege of never having

endured bullying and false accusations of abuse – things that actually matter. the emotional investments into someone not having wr and increasingly propagandised times have made things tense for everyone

so i want to set an example by tryna just stick to the facts w/o judgement
