from what i can tell, i have a very similar approach to prac as suigi, even so far as intensively practising rly granular sections of movement where most sms players don’t even use save-states, yet i *still* underperform quite badly in rta

this isn’t really what sets him apart https://twitter.com/cheese051/status/1670572290944253959

i have great intelligence/intuition for optimising movement and good movement *now*, but it took me 3 years to get here and still be dragging a mid any% time

i also have one of the best mentalities of my peers, reminds me more of watching pro tennis than other runners

the issue is i don’t have the innate ability to learn to press buttons effectively and with low timing variance, and started at age 24

talent comes first in speedrunning

and then u have to note that time invested makes a huge difference that’s impossible to compare in others

it’s romantic if those w/ the most virtuous advantages are the best but they never are

having said that, i’ve seen many be drastically limited by bad analytical ability or mentality

still, lacking talent need never stop u from doing it for the love. u can kill ur ego w/ effort

p.s.

the key to killing ego, like most personal instabilities, is depersonalisation + *acceptance*

not pretending talent doesn’t exist and getting rinsed

it’s 1 thing accepting talent makes u feel bad. it’s good to feel

but another to pretend any1 can get wr if ey rly tries
