@PumpMan999 the asset discussed here isn't commentary experience but rather good hosting skills, and imo this is smth most ppl can learn just as well as the ppl who have done it before. these ppl started out just being roped in by friends. they rarely have a particular talent for it

@PumpMan999 there's always a known-quantity bias in assessing comming skill, basically. the actual indispensable assets u have are 1. ppl's knowledge and 2. goodwill to build community. u can harness these and still put on a good show by pairing your assets w/ hosts who can put them to work

@PumpMan999 hosts can make basic observations and ask astute questions that allow the commentator to give insight. get 8 ppl to comm for an hour with 8 hosts and they can themselves learn to host/solo-comm cos there's so little extra needed to do that, just self-confidence

@PumpMan999 i just do not see a place for boomer sms players here. i agree this comms list is decent but think it still entrenches the pattern the sm64 ltas have where many comms are so detached from the top runners that they have nothing useful to say

@PumpMan999 it's better to take a hit (within reason) by having sketchier comms from inexperienced ppl if it rewards knowledgable and community-oriented ppl cos long-term, this will build the commentary skill that will make the events really good

@PumpMan999 and from gsa's side, i'd say a little effort in giving comms test runs to prepare them would go a long way, and not missing the woods for the trees r.e. raising money, by using known-quantity boomers rather than making ccg-style by-the-community-for-the-community events

@PumpMan999 maybe that's a little idealistic of me but i just think it's a route into tapping into the vast potential of lta commentary, rather than the fairly stagnant state it's been in with sm64 lately [8/8]

@PumpMan999 p.s. let me attempt to get at what makes a really good commentary. someone who can get at the *differences between the top players*. knows their histories, community anecdotes. can contrast their different approaches to specific levels, and relate game-mechanics to playstyle
