i had some insights on speedrun mentality from my grind from the past 3 months. i took my sms any% pb from 1:22 to 1:19, and will keep it up till 1:18

there was a time when i felt many ppl were better than their pb but got a raw deal from rng, but i see it another way now [1/6]

i think erry1 is able to get a pb reflecting skill in a few months of grinding. some will smash it off a fluke. some r clutch, meaning they can control anxiety + play well on pace

so here are 2 tips for us plebs who can’t do either, from me who’s pbed by 12–25s the last 5 times

1. don’t fixate on good paces that die early on in the grind. it’s an exercise in delayed gratification and avoiding greed. even if u were very ahead once, you’re not at the level where it’s consistent yet, so wait until that pace becomes a regular thing. it always does

2. show up! it’s hard cos speedrunning is a mundane activity, but work on the mental aspect that makes you keep showing up every day or 2 to do runs or prac, for the duration of a pre-determined grind period. handle it like housework, distract yourself with music, etc.

maybe it’s helped me that i trained rowing at age 15, one of the most mundane sports there is. have faith in later improvements, show up, and do not quit! (cos u get yelled at ._.) rowing also taught me the importance of separating out inputs, which is also very relevant here
