the 2ndary theme of the suburbs is how it gets harder to be ok as the filter of childhood dissipates and leaves u facing the dehumanised city

still there’re hints things aren’t so bad cos u grew up w each other. but when i look into those memories, i find they’re mostly missing

i’m gonna reexplain half light cos i was too cryptic 1st time. the first song is about presence and liminality, and how being in the half light just for a bit, wondering about what goes on in all the houses, gives you a child’s energy to not conform + mentally escape the suburbs

the second is about the hangover this leads to. of having to grow up and move on from bad things, and how your childhood ghosts haunting the places you walk around aren’t real. coming to terms with what you’ve lost, not living in a liminal dissociation forever

i relate to this a lot cos it’s my comfort and affinity for liminality that’s made me the unusual and built-different person i am but it’s also given me an unbreakable alienation as i realise i’ve lived alone in the half light my whole adult life and can’t get back in the houses
