steez was slightly before my time and a huge regret to not have experienced. its ethos of creativity via collectivism nailed my vision of what art should be. an environment where every rando was empowered to get up and create. this describes it well https://www.hercampus.com/school/bristol/steez-south-londons-defiance-monotony-pop-music-culture/

i was amazed to see @pumabluemusic, whom i’d seen nervously facing up to his first big audience supporting @jordanrakei, blow up and have 24mil plays on she’s just a phase, to me a cute song i used to sing coming back from gigs on portobello road that same year

i consciously ditched rock music for this in 2016 after deciding it had the same creative depth as those 60s/70s records i 1st fell for, while also a living breathing scene i could take part in. 2y later it started being internationally recognised and i knew i’d called it right

i’m less active, back to listening to all sorts now, but this transformed how i think about creative collectivism and the purpose of art to an individual
