it makes me think a lot about how ppl use others' videos to learn ILs/compete, but then don't contribute their own videos. it's hard to explain individual cases in a way concrete enough to beat "too lazy to contribute", cos it's rly a mentality based on collectivism

the song hits the nail on the head for a thing that's hugely wrong in the mentality of westerners. the focus is always on being an individual who stands out and so gets counted in capitalism where erryth is a competition, and hardly anybody ever thinks like a collective

speedrunning is always a microcosm of the real world on these things. when ppl speedrun, they are pushed to fixate on their achievements, their stream stats. that's what's rewarded w fame + money. many ppl don't consider giving back at all. some only contribute a social presence

most tutes are made by 1 person w/ no other input. a lot of tools are as well, w/ no effort to talk to ppl who paved the way, or caretake that stuff. mod structures are weak, ppl sit on them idly for clout, others don't even try to fit into the effort to better communities

that's all a negative caricature of a community, but it's rly the mindset that i'm getting at. it's hard for young ppl to take responsibility/be dutiful about hobby stuff, and managerial skill is rare. but i feel like it'd all be figured out if ppl thought more like a collective

cos the goodwill and enthusiasm are always there, but it takes a little more to ditch ego and purposely de-emphasise individuality, to be one with the whole and have curiosity in it and other ppl's work
